 Sweet potato cutlet is one of the easy, healthy and delicious snacks. It is also known as shakarkandi.  To prepare this recipe just mix boiled and mashed sweet potatoes and all other ingredients, make the dough and shape the cutlets. Finally shallow fry the cutlets and enjoy.

Most people and kids will refuse to eat plain boiled sweet potato, but if you give sweet potato cutlet and sweet potato kheer which will be the next upcoming recipe they like to eat them. Sweet potato is good for the nervous system and lowers blood pressure. The time required for this recipe is 15 minutes

The delicious sweet potato cutlet is easy to prepare just combine boiled and mashed sweet potato and all the ingredients mix well, shape as cutlet and finally, fry the cutlets. Serve the yummy sweet potato recipe with tomato ketchup.

Ingredients
Ingredients for sweet potato cutlet:
  • Boiled and mashed sweet potato -1 cup
  • Gram flour (besan) – 2 spoons
  • Rice flour – 3 spoons
  • Chopped green chilli – 1
  • Onions – 1cup
  • Oil – for shallow fry (4-6 spoons)
  • Salt – as required(2 spoons)
Spice powders:
  • Garam masala powder – 1 spoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 spoon
  • Red chilli powder – 1 spoon
Instructions
Procedure for sweet potato cutlet:
Preparing cutlet:
  1. Take a bowl to add boiled, peeled and mashed sweet potato.

  2. Make sure the mashed potato does not contain water.

  3. Add onions, coriander leaves, rice flour and chopped green chilli. 

  4. Add salt, red chilli powder, besan (gram flour) and garam masala powder.   

  5.  Mix well all the ingredients to form a dough.

  6.  Take a lemon sized sweet potato dough.

  7. Make a smooth ball cutlet of medium thickness.

  8.  Make sure that there are no cracks 

  9. Repeat the same process for the rest of the dough.

Shallow fry the cutlets:
  1. Heat oil in a shallow pan, Add oil for each batch of cutlet. 

  2.  Always fry the cutlets in low to medium heat. 

  3. Fry on both sides until they turn to golden brown 

  4. Sweet potato cutlet is ready to serve.

  5. Serve hot with tomato ketchup or green chutney and a cup of hot tea. 

Recipe Notes

Roast the besan for a rich taste. This is optional.

While shaping cutlet make sure that there are no cracks.

Always fry the cutlets in low to medium heat. 

 Step by step procedure for sweet potato cutlet:

Take a bowl to add boiled, peeled and mashed sweet potato. Make sure the mashed potato contains no water.
    Add chopped onions.

Add chopped coriander leaves, rice flour, chopped green chilli.

    And also add salt, red chilli powder, besan (gram flour), garam masala powder.

   Mix everything well all the ingredients.

 Make the dough.

   Take a lemon sized sweet potato dough.

   Make a smooth ball cutlet of medium thickness. Make sure that there are no cracks. Repeat the same process for the rest of the dough.

   Heat oil in a shallow pan, Add 2 spoons of oil for each cutlet. Always fry the cutlets in low to medium heat. Fry on both sides until golden brown.
Sweet potato cutlet is ready to serve. Serve hot with tomato ketchup or green chutney and a cup of hot tea.
